ਦਾਵਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਬੂਟ ॥

रामकली महला ५ ॥

Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:

ਦਾਵਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਬੂਟ ॥

dāvā agni rahē hari būṭ ॥

दावा अगनि रहे हरि बूट ॥

Even in a forest fire, some trees remain green.

ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਸੰਕਟ ਤੇ ਛੂਟ ॥

māt garabh saṅkaṭ tē chhūṭ ॥

मात गरभ संकट ते छूट ॥

The infant is released from the pain of the mother's womb.

ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਭਉ ਜਾਇ ॥

jā kā nāmu simrat bhau jāi ॥

जा का नामु सिमरत भउ जाइ ॥

Meditating in remembrance on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, fear is dispelled.

ਤੈਸੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥੧॥

taisē sant janā rākhai hari rāi ॥1॥

तैसे संत जना राखै हरि राइ ॥१॥

Just so, the Sovereign Lord protects and saves the Saints. ||1||

ਐਸੇ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰ ਦਇਆਲ ॥

aisē rākhnahār daiāl ॥

ऐसे राखनहार दइआल ॥

Such is the Merciful Lord, my Protector.

ਜਤ ਕਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jat kat dēkhau tum pratipāl ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

जत कत देखउ तुम प्रतिपाल ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Wherever I look, I see You cherishing and nurturing. ||1||Pause||

ਜਲੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਖਾ ਮਿਟੰਤ ॥

jalu pīvat jiu tikhā miṭant ॥

जलु पीवत जिउ तिखा मिटंत ॥

As thirst is quenched by drinking water;

ਧਨ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਆਵਤ ਕੰਤ ॥

dhan bigsai grihi āvat kant ॥

धन बिगसै ग्रिहि आवत कंत ॥

As the bride blossoms forth when her husband comes home;

ਲੋਭੀ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥

lōbhī kā dhanu prāṇ adhāru ॥

लोभी का धनु प्राण अधारु ॥

As wealth is the support of the greedy person

ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੨॥

tiu hari jan hari hari nām piāru ॥2॥

तिउ हरि जन हरि हरि नाम पिआरु ॥२॥

- just so, the humble servant of the Lord loves the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||2||

ਕਿਰਸਾਨੀ ਜਿਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥

kirsānī jiu rākhai rakhvālā ॥

किरसानी जिउ राखै रखवाला ॥

As the farmer protects his fields;

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਇਆ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਲਾ ॥

māt pitā daiā jiu bālā ॥

मात पिता दइआ जिउ बाला ॥

As the mother and father show compassion to their child;

ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

prītmu dēkhi prītmu mili jāi ॥

प्रीतमु देखि प्रीतमु मिलि जाइ ॥

As the lover merges on seeing the beloved;

ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਰਾਖੈ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੩॥

tiu hari jan rākhai kaṇṭhi lāi ॥3॥

तिउ हरि जन राखै कंठि लाइ ॥३॥

Just so does the Lord hug His humble servant close in His Embrace. ||3||

ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਪੇਖਤ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦ ॥

jiu andhulē pēkhat hōi anand ॥

जिउ अंधुले पेखत होइ अनंद ॥

As the blind man is in ecstasy, when he can see again;

ਗੂੰਗਾ ਬਕਤ ਗਾਵੈ ਬਹੁ ਛੰਦ ॥

gūṅgā bakat gāvai bahu chhand ॥

गूंगा बकत गावै बहु छंद ॥

And the mute, when he is able to speak and sing songs;

ਪਿੰਗੁਲ ਪਰਬਤ ਪਰਤੇ ਪਾਰਿ ॥

piṅgul parbat partē pāri ॥

पिंगुल परबत परते पारि ॥

And the cripple, being able to climb over the mountain

ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰਿ ॥੪॥

hari kai nāmi sagal udhāri ॥4॥

हरि कै नामि सगल उधारि ॥४॥

- just so, the Name of the Lord saves all. ||4||

ਜਿਉ ਪਾਵਕ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੀਤ ਕੋ ਨਾਸ ॥

jiu pāvak saṅgi sīt kō nās ॥

जिउ पावक संगि सीत को नास ॥

As cold is dispelled by fire,

ਐਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਛਤ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥

aisē prāchhat santsaṅgi binās ॥

ऐसे प्राछत संतसंगि बिनास ॥

Sins are driven out in the Society of the Saints.

ਜਿਉ ਸਾਬੁਨਿ ਕਾਪਰ ਊਜਲ ਹੋਤ ॥

jiu sābuni kāpar ūjal hōt ॥

जिउ साबुनि कापर ऊजल होत ॥

As cloth is cleaned by soap,

ਨਾਮ ਜਪਤ ਸਭੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਖੋਤ ॥੫॥

nām japat sabhu bhramu bhau khōt ॥5॥

नाम जपत सभु भ्रमु भउ खोत ॥५॥

Just so, by chanting the Naam, all doubts and fears are dispelled. ||5||

ਜਿਉ ਚਕਵੀ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੀ ਆਸ ॥

jiu chakvī sūraj kī ās ॥

जिउ चकवी सूरज की आस ॥

As the chakvi bird longs for the sun,

ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ॥

jiu chātrik būnd kī piās ॥

जिउ चात्रिक बूंद की पिआस ॥

As the rainbird thirsts for the rain drop,

ਜਿਉ ਕੁਰੰਕ ਨਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥

jiu kuraṅk nād karan samānē ॥

जिउ कुरंक नाद करन समाने ॥

As the deer's ears are attuned to the sound of the bell,

ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਮਨਹਿ ਸੁਖਾਨੇ ॥੬॥

tiu hari nām hari jan manhi sukhānē ॥6॥

तिउ हरि नाम हरि जन मनहि सुखाने ॥६॥

The Lord's Name is pleasing to the mind of the Lord's humble servant. ||6||

ਤੁਮਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥

tumrī kripā tē lāgī prīti ॥

तुमरी क्रिपा ते लागी प्रीति ॥

By Your Grace, we love You.

ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਤਾ ਆਏ ਚੀਤਿ ॥

daiāl bhaē tā āē chīti ॥

दइआल भए ता आए चीति ॥

When You show Mercy, then You come into our minds.

ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰੀ ਤਿਨਿ ਧਾਰਣਹਾਰ ॥

daiā dhārī tini dhārṇahār ॥

दइआ धारी तिनि धारणहार ॥

When the Support of the earth granted His Grace,

ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ਛੁਟਕਾਰ ॥੭॥

bandhan tē hōī chhuṭkār ॥7॥

बंधन ते होई छुटकार ॥७॥

Then I was released from my bonds. ||7||

ਸਭਿ ਥਾਨ ਦੇਖੇ ਨੈਣ ਅਲੋਇ ॥

sabhi thān dēkhē naiṇ alōi ॥

सभि थान देखे नैण अलोइ ॥

I have seen all places with my eyes wide open.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

tisu binu dūjā avru na kōi ॥

तिसु बिनु दूजा अवरु न कोइ ॥

There is no other than Him.

ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੈ ਛੂਟੇ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦ ॥

bhram bhai chhūṭē gur parsād ॥

भ्रम भै छूटे गुर परसाद ॥

Doubt and fear are dispelled, by Guru's Grace.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਸਭੁ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ॥੮॥੪॥

nānak pēkhiō sabhu bismād ॥8॥4॥

नानक पेखिओ सभु बिसमाद ॥८॥४॥

Nanak sees the wondrous Lord everywhere. ||8||4||
