ਬਾਬਾ ਆਇਆ ਕਰਤਾਰਪੁਰ ਭੇਖ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਸਗਲ ਉਤਾਰਾ॥

ਬਾਬਾ ਆਇਆ ਕਰਤਾਰਪੁਰ ਭੇਖ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਸਗਲ ਉਤਾਰਾ॥

bābā āiā kartārpur bhēkh udāsī sagal utārā॥

बाबा आइआ करतारपुर भेख उदासी सगल उतारा॥

Then Baba (Nanak) returned to Kartarpur where he put aside his attire of a Recluse.

ਪਹਿਰ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਕਪੜੇ ਮੰਜੀ ਬੈਠ ਕੀਆ ਅਵਤਾਰਾ॥

pahir saṃsārī kapaṛē mañjī baiṭh kīā avtārā॥

पहिर संसारी कपड़े मंजी बैठ कीआ अवतारा॥

Now putting on a householder’s dress, he sat splendidly on a cot (and executed his mission).

ਉਲਟੀ ਗੰਗ ਵਹਾਈਓਨ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਗਦ ਸਿਰ ਉਪਰ ਧਾਰਾ॥

ulṭī gaṅg vahāīōn gur aṅgad sir upar dhārā॥

उलटी गंग वहाईओन गुर अंगद सिर उपर धारा॥

He made the Ganges flow in opposite direction because he choose Angad for heading the people (in preference to his sons).

ਪੁਤੀਂ ਕੌਲ ਨ ਪਾਲਿਆ ਮਨ ਖੋਟੇ ਆਕੀ ਨਸਿਆਰਾ॥

putīṃ kaul na pāliā man khōṭē ākī nasiārā॥

पुतीं कौल न पालिआ मन खोटे आकी नसिआरा॥

The sons did not obey the commands and their minds turned hostile and unstable.

ਬਾਣੀ ਮੁਖਹੁ ਉਚਾਰੀਐ ਹੋਇ ਰੁਸ਼ਨਾਈ ਮਿਟੈ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ॥

bāṇī mukhhu uchārīai hōi rushnāī miṭai andhārā॥

बाणी मुखहु उचारीऐ होइ रुशनाई मिटै अंधारा॥

When Baba uttered hymns, the light would spread and darkness dispell.

ਗਿਆਨ ਗੋਸ਼ ਚਰਚਾ ਸਦਾ ਅਨਹਦ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਉਠੇ ਧੁਨਕਾਰਾ॥

giān gōsh charchā sadā anhad shabad uṭhē dhunkārā॥

गिआन गोश चरचा सदा अनहद शबद उठे धुनकारा॥

Discussions for the sake of knowledge and the melodies of unstruck sound were ever heard there.

ਸੋਦਰ ਆਰਤੀ ਗਾਵੀਐ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਜਾਪ ਉਚਾਰਾ॥

sōdar āratī gāvīai ammrit vēlē jāp uchārā॥

सोदर आरती गावीऐ अंम्रित वेले जाप उचारा॥

Sodar and Arati were sung and in the ambrosial hours Japu was recited.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਭਾਰ ਅਥਰਬਣ ਧਾਰਾ ॥੩੮॥

gurmukh bhār athrabaṇ dhārā ॥38॥

गुरमुख भार अथरबण धारा ॥३८॥

The Gurmukh (Nanak) saved the people from the clutches of tantra, mantra and Atharvaveda.
