ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਤ ਛੁਟਾਰਾ ॥

ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਤ ਛੁਟਾਰਾ ॥

anik jatan nahī hōt chhuṭārā ॥

अनिक जतन नही होत छुटारा ॥

By all sorts of efforts, people do not find salvation.

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਆਗਲ ਭਾਰਾ ॥

bahutu siāṇap āgal bhārā ॥

बहुतु सिआणप आगल भारा ॥

Through clever tricks, the weight is only piled on more and more.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੇਤ ॥

hari kī sēvā nirmal hēt ॥

हरि की सेवा निरमल हेत ॥

Serving the Lord with a pure heart,

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੇਤ ॥੧॥

prabh kī dargah sōbhā sēt ॥1॥

प्रभ की दरगह सोभा सेत ॥१॥

You shall be received with honor at God's Court. ||1||

ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਗਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਓਲਾ ॥

man mērē gahu hari nām kā ōlā ॥

मन मेरे गहु हरि नाम का ओला ॥

O my mind, hold tight to the Support of the Lord's Name.

ਤੁਝੈ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਾਤਾ ਝੋਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

tujhai na lāgai tātā jhōlā ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

तुझै न लागै ताता झोला ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

The hot winds shall never even touch you. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਉ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਭੈ ਸਾਗਰ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

jiu bōhithu bhai sāgar māhi ॥

जिउ बोहिथु भै सागर माहि ॥

Like a boat in the ocean of fear;

ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਦੀਪਕ ਦੀਪਾਹਿ ॥

andhkār dīpak dīpāhi ॥

अंधकार दीपक दीपाहि ॥

Like a lamp which illumines the darkness;

ਅਗਨਿ ਸੀਤ ਕਾ ਲਾਹਸਿ ਦੂਖ ॥

agni sīt kā lāhsi dūkh ॥

अगनि सीत का लाहसि दूख ॥

Like fire which takes away the pain of cold

ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਸੂਖ ॥੨॥

nāmu japat mani hōvat sūkh ॥2॥

नामु जपत मनि होवत सूख ॥२॥

- just so, chanting the Name, the mind becomes peaceful. ||2||

ਉਤਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ॥

utri jāi tērē man kī piās ॥

उतरि जाइ तेरे मन की पिआस ॥

The thirst of your mind shall be quenched,

ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਗਲੀ ਆਸ ॥

pūran hōvai saglī ās ॥

पूरन होवै सगली आस ॥

And all hopes shall be fulfilled.

ਡੋਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਚੀਤੁ ॥

ḍōlai nāhī tumrā chītu ॥

डोलै नाही तुमरा चीतु ॥

Your consciousness shall not waver.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੀਤ ॥੩॥

ammrit nāmu japi gurmukhi mīt ॥3॥

अंम्रित नामु जपि गुरमुखि मीत ॥३॥

Meditate on the Ambrosial Naam as Gurmukh, O my friend. ||3||

ਨਾਮੁ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

nāmu aukhdhu sōī janu pāvai ॥

नामु अउखधु सोई जनु पावै ॥

He alone receives the panacea, the medicine of the Naam,

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਵਾਵੈ ॥

kari kirpā jisu āpi divāvai ॥

करि किरपा जिसु आपि दिवावै ॥

Unto whom the Lord, in His Grace, bestows it.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸੈ ॥

hari hari nāmu jā kai hirdai vasai ॥

हरि हरि नामु जा कै हिरदै वसै ॥

One whose heart is filled with the Name of the Lord, Har, Har

ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਸੈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੭੯॥

dūkhu dardu tih nānak nasai ॥4॥10॥79॥

दूखु दरदु तिह नानक नसै ॥४॥१०॥७९॥

- O Nanak, his pains and sorrows are eliminated. ||4||10||79||
