ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ik-ōṅkār satigur prasādi ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਅਖਲੀ ਊਂਡੀ ਜਲੁ ਭਰ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

akhlī ūṇḍī jalu bhar nāli ॥

अखली ऊंडी जलु भर नालि ॥

The earth bends under the weight of the water,

ਡੂਗਰੁ ਊਚਉ ਗੜੁ ਪਾਤਾਲਿ ॥

ḍūgru ūchhau gaṛu pātāli ॥

डूगरु ऊचउ गड़ु पातालि ॥

The lofty mountains and the caverns of the underworld.

ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

sāgru sītlu gur sabad vīchāri ॥

सागरु सीतलु गुर सबद वीचारि ॥

Contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the oceans become calm.

ਮਾਰਗੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੧॥

mārgu muktā haumai māri ॥1॥

मारगु मुकता हउमै मारि ॥१॥

The path of liberation is found by subduing the ego. ||1||

ਮੈ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ॥

mai andhulē nāvai kī jōti ॥

मै अंधुले नावै की जोति ॥

I am blind; I seek the Light of the Name.

ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰਿ ਚਲਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭੈ ਭੇਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

nām adhāri chalā gur kai bhai bhēti ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

नाम अधारि चला गुर कै भै भेति ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

I take the Support of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. I walk on the path of mystery of the Guru's Fear. ||1||Pause||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਪਾਧਰੁ ਜਾਣਿ ॥

satigur sabadī pādhru jāṇi ॥

सतिगुर सबदी पाधरु जाणि ॥

Through the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru, the Path is known.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਤਕੀਐ ਸਾਚੈ ਤਾਣਿ ॥

gur kai takīai sāchai tāṇi ॥

गुर कै तकीऐ साचै ताणि ॥

With the Guru's Support, one is blessed with the strength of the True Lord.

ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਲਸਿ ਰੂੜ੍‍ੀ ਬਾਣਿ ॥

nāmu samālsi rūṛī bāṇi ॥

नामु सम्‍ालसि रूड़्‍ी बाणि ॥

Dwell on the Naam, and realize the Beauteous Word of His Bani.

ਥੈਂ ਭਾਵੈ ਦਰੁ ਲਹਸਿ ਪਿਰਾਣਿ ॥੨॥

thaiṃ bhāvai daru lahsi pirāṇi ॥2॥

थैं भावै दरु लहसि पिराणि ॥२॥

If it is Your Will, Lord, You lead me to find Your Door. ||2||

ਊਡਾਂ ਬੈਸਾ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਤਾਰ ॥

ūḍāṃ baisā ēk liv tār ॥

ऊडां बैसा एक लिव तार ॥

Flying high or sitting down, I am lovingly focused on the One Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਾਮ ਆਧਾਰ ॥

gur kai sabdi nām ādhār ॥

गुर कै सबदि नाम आधार ॥

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I take the Naam as my Suppport.

ਨਾ ਜਲੁ ਡੂੰਗਰੁ ਨ ਊਚੀ ਧਾਰ ॥

nā jalu ḍūṅgru na ūchhī dhār ॥

ना जलु डूंगरु न ऊची धार ॥

There is no ocean of water, no mountain ranges rising up.

ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਤਹ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਚਾਲਣਹਾਰ ॥੩॥

nij ghari vāsā tah magu na chālṇahār ॥3॥

निज घरि वासा तह मगु न चालणहार ॥३॥

I dwell within the home of my own inner being, where there is no path and no one travelling on it. ||3||

ਜਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਬੀਜਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥

jitu ghari vashi tūhai bidhi jāṇhi bījau mahlu na jāpai ॥

जितु घरि वसहि तूहै बिधि जाणहि बीजउ महलु न जापै ॥

You alone know the way to that House in which You dwell. No one else knows the Mansion of Your Presence.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸਮਝ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਦਬਿਆ ਛਾਪੈ ॥

satigur bājhhu samajh na hōvī sabhu jagu dabiā chhāpai ॥

सतिगुर बाझहु समझ न होवी सभु जगु दबिआ छापै ॥

Without the True Guru, there is no understanding. The whole world is buried under its nightmare.

ਕਰਣ ਪਲਾਵ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਤਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥

karaṇ palāv karai billātau binu gur nāmu na jāpai ॥

करण पलाव करै बिललातउ बिनु गुर नामु न जापै ॥

The mortal tries all sorts of things, and weeps and wails, but without the Guru, he does not know the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਪਲ ਪੰਕਜ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਛਡਾਏ ਜੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਿਾਪੈ ॥੪॥

pal paṅkaj mahi nāmu chhaḍāē jē gur sabdu sāpai ॥4॥

पल पंकज महि नामु छडाए जे गुर सबदु सिापै ॥४॥

In the twinkling of an eye, the Naam saves him, if he realizes the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||4||

ਇਕਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥

iki mūrakh andhē mugadh gavār ॥

इकि मूरख अंधे मुगध गवार ॥

Some are foolish, blind, stupid and ignorant.

ਇਕਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭੈ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰ ॥

iki satigur kai bhai nām adhār ॥

इकि सतिगुर कै भै नाम अधार ॥

Some, through fear of the True Guru, take the Support of the Naam.

ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਮੀਠੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਧਾਰ ॥

sāchī bāṇī mīṭhī ammrit dhār ॥

साची बाणी मीठी अंम्रित धार ॥

The True Word of His Bani is sweet, the source of ambrosial nectar.

ਜਿਨਿ ਪੀਤੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰ ॥੫॥

jini pītī tisu mōkh duār ॥5॥

जिनि पीती तिसु मोख दुआर ॥५॥

Whoever drinks it in, finds the Door of Salvation. ||5||

ਨਾਮੁ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਹੀ ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

nāmu bhai bhāi ridai vasāhī gur karṇī sachu bāṇī ॥

नामु भै भाइ रिदै वसाही गुर करणी सचु बाणी ॥

One who, through the love and fear of God, enshrines the Naam within his heart, acts according to the Guru's Instructions and knows the True Bani.

ਇੰਦੁ ਵਰਸੈ ਧਰਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥

indu varsai dharti suhāvī ghaṭi ghaṭi jōti samāṇī ॥

इंदु वरसै धरति सुहावी घटि घटि जोति समाणी ॥

When the clouds release their rain, the earth becomes beautiful; God's Light permeates each and every heart.

ਕਾਲਰਿ ਬੀਜਸਿ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਐਸੀ ਨਿਗੁਰੇ ਕੀ ਨੀਸਾਣੀ ॥

kālri bījsi durmati aisī nigurē kī nīsāṇī ॥

कालरि बीजसि दुरमति ऐसी निगुरे की नीसाणी ॥

The evil-minded ones plant their seed in the barren soil; such is the sign of those who have no Guru.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਘੋਰ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ਡੂਬਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਾਣੀ ॥੬॥

satigur bājhhu ghōr andhārā ḍūbi muē binu pāṇī ॥6॥

सतिगुर बाझहु घोर अंधारा डूबि मुए बिनु पाणी ॥६॥

Without the True Guru, there is utter darkness; they drown there, even without water. ||6||

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਰਜਾਇ ॥

jō kichhu kīnō su prabhū rajāi ॥

जो किछु कीनो सु प्रभू रजाइ ॥

Whatever God does, is by His Own Will.

ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

jō dhuri likhiā su mēṭṇā na jāi ॥

जो धुरि लिखिआ सु मेटणा न जाइ ॥

That which is pre-ordained cannot be erased.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਬਾਧਾ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

hukmē bādhā kār kamāi ॥

हुकमे बाधा कार कमाइ ॥

Bound to the Hukam of the Lord's Command, the mortal does his deeds.

ਏਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਾਚੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੭॥

ēk sabdi rāchai sachi samāi ॥7॥

एक सबदि राचै सचि समाइ ॥७॥

Permeated by the One Word of the Shabad, the mortal is immersed in Truth. ||7||

ਚਹੁ ਦਿਸਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰਾ ਚਹੁ ਦਿਸਿ ਨਾਮ ਪਤਾਲੰ ॥

chahu disi hukmu vartai prabh tērā chahu disi nām patālaṃ ॥

चहु दिसि हुकमु वरतै प्रभ तेरा चहु दिसि नाम पतालं ॥

Your Command, O God, rules in the four directions; Your Name pervades the four corners of the nether regions as well.

ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚਾ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਬੈਆਲੰ ॥

sabh mahi sabdu vartai prabh sāchā karmi milai baiālaṃ ॥

सभ महि सबदु वरतै प्रभ साचा करमि मिलै बैआलं ॥

The True Word of the Shabad is pervading amongst all. By His Grace, the Eternal One unites us with Himself.

ਜਾਂਮਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਊਭੌ ਖੁਧਿਆ ਨਿਦ੍ਰਾ ਕਾਲੰ ॥

jāmmṇu marṇā dīsai siri ūbhau khudhiā nidrā kālaṃ ॥

जांमणु मरणा दीसै सिरि ऊभौ खुधिआ निद्रा कालं ॥

Birth and death hang over the heads of all beings, along with hunger, sleep and dying.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਰਸਾਲੰ ॥੮॥੧॥੪॥

nānak nāmu milai mani bhāvai sāchī nadri rasālaṃ ॥8॥1॥4॥

नानक नामु मिलै मनि भावै साची नदरि रसालं ॥८॥१॥४॥

The Naam is pleasing to Nanak's mind; O True Lord, Source of bliss, please bless me with Your Grace. ||8||1||4||
