ਆਇਓ ਸੁਨਨ ਪੜਨ ਕਉ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

सारग महला ५ ॥

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:

ਆਇਓ ਸੁਨਨ ਪੜਨ ਕਉ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

āiō sunan paṛan kau bāṇī ॥

आइओ सुनन पड़न कउ बाणी ॥

The mortal came to hear and chant the Word of the Guru's Bani.

ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਅਨ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

nāmu visāri laghi an lālchi birthā janmu parāṇī ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

नामु विसारि लगहि अन लालचि बिरथा जनमु पराणी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

But he has forgotten the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and he has become attached to other temptations. His life is totally worthless! ||1||Pause||

ਸਮਝੁ ਅਚੇਤ ਚੇਤਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਥੀ ਸੰਤਨ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥

samjhu achēt chēti man mērē kathī santan akath kahāṇī ॥

समझु अचेत चेति मन मेरे कथी संतन अकथ कहाणी ॥

O my unconscious mind, become conscious and figure it out; the Saints speak the Unspoken Speech of the Lord.

ਲਾਭੁ ਲੈਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਅਰਾਧਹੁ ਛੁਟਕੈ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੀ ॥੧॥

lābhu laihu hari ridai arādhhu chhuṭkai āvaṇ jāṇī ॥1॥

लाभु लैहु हरि रिदै अराधहु छुटकै आवण जाणी ॥१॥

So gather in your profits - worship and adore the Lord within your heart; your coming and going in reincarnation shall end. ||1||

ਉਦਮੁ ਸਕਤਿ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਤੁਮ੍‍ਰੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥

udmu sakti siāṇap tum‍rī dēhi ta nāmu vakhāṇī ॥

उदमु सकति सिआणप तुम्‍री देहि त नामु वखाणी ॥

Efforts, powers and clever tricks are Yours; if You bless me with them, I repeat Your Name.

ਸੇਈ ਭਗਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਣੀ ॥੨॥੫੬॥੭੯॥

sēī bhagat bhagti sē lāgē nānak jō prabh bhāṇī ॥2॥56॥79॥

सेई भगत भगति से लागे नानक जो प्रभ भाणी ॥२॥५६॥७९॥

They alone are devotees, and they alone are attached to devotional worship, O Nanak, who are pleasing to God. ||2||56||79||
